£3200 raised by Activity4Charity
Online health challenge
A technology company set up by a team of Surrey/Hampshire based entrepreneurs has developed an online health challenge that gets you fit and raises money for charities.
Activity4Charity uses latest sensor technology and a web platform to encourage participants to get more physically active by setting daily step targets and raising sponsorship. Participants are challenged to walk up to 10,000 steps a day for a 6 week period, the equivalent of 200 miles. This is not an endurance event however. It allows additional activity to be included into your daily routine and the sensor picks up this additional activity and converts it into steps.

You can walk/jog/cycle/zumba/treadmill your way to this additional 30-60 minutes of activity a day, whenever you want during the day.
You can even include swiming but as the sensor is not waterproof you cannot wear it whilst swimming. Research has shown that by doing this you can decrease the liklihood of getting certain chronic diseases such as coronory heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and certain cancers by 50%. It also aids in mental wellbeing and after certain types of chemotherapy.

Founder Adrian Murrell said, "In a recent challenge during October, the participants walked a total of 6.5 million steps and generated £3200 for charity. Teams competed for greatest distance covered and most money raised."
Susan one of the participants and someone who often works from home said “Until I took the challenge, I had no idea how little walking I do when I work from home! I’ve now made some changes to my daily routine and feel so much fitter. The support from my friends and family was really great and I raised over £600 for CoppaFeel a breast cancer awareness charity.”
