Nominate a sports star for the East Hampshire District Sports Awards

The East Hampshire District Sports Awards will recognise the area’s best performers across a range of categories.

Organisers East Hampshire District Council is calling for residents to nominate the people they feel have contributed most to their team or sport.

The awards will be part of a range of special events held to mark the hosting of the Olympic Games in 2012.

Kirsty Cope, EHDC Community Project Worker, said: “Sport helps provide the bedrock of strong communities. It inspires dedication and determination, creates passion and pride, instils discipline and fair play, provides opportunity for fun and friendship, builds character and courage and engenders camaraderie and team spirit amongst competitors and spectators alike.

“As we move towards the games in London these awards will harness all these positive messages and celebrate everything that is good about sport.”

Awards will be handed to elite performers as well as members of the local sporting community – the coaches, officials and volunteers who work behind the scenes to help athletes and clubs succeed.

The winners of the district awards will be put forward to compete for the 2012 Hampshire & IOW Sports Awards.

Nominees are assessed by a judging panel and winners are required to meet criteria specific for each category.

The deadline for nominations is Monday 19 December 2011 and elected finalists are invited to the awards evening on Thursday 16 February 2012 at Penns Place, Petersfield.
