Local health walk scheme launches new monthly walk
The flourishing Walking for Health scheme in Alton is expanding and launching a new monthly walk starting on Saturday 6th August.
East Hampshire District Council runs a programme of health walks aimed at people keen to start walking and improve their fitness. This new monthly walks is aimed at people who have already started walking and would like to increase their fitness by walking for longer. It is part of the national Walking for Health initiative and offers led walks for differing abilities.
The new walk takes place on the first Saturday of every month starting from Sat 6th August, meeting at Alton Sports Centre Car Park (by the Skate Park) with the walk commencing at 9.30am. Each walk will last for about two hours and will cover approximately 5/6 miles. Afterwards there is a chance to socialise and have refreshments at the Sports Centre. Everyone is welcome.
Louise Christie, Walking for Health Co-ordinator for East Hampshire says “the weekly Alton Walking for Health group, which starts from the same place but on a Tuesday morning at 10.30am, has been running successfully for over 5 years and this new walk will give those existing walkers a new longer walk to try out. It will also offer people who work during the week the opportunity to join in with the Walking for Health initiative and get fitter. Everyone from the local community is welcome.”
Local Walk Leaders, James Nixon, Philippa Hicks and Carol Flowers will be ready to welcome you on the walks which will take place throughout the year. If you would like to find out more information about this walk, or any of the other walks throughout the district, please call Louise Christie on 01730 234067 or email louise.christie@easthants.gov.uk, or visit the walking section of our Activities Directory, or search by your local area.
