Sport Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards Nominations now open!
Sport Hampshire and Isle of Wight - Sports Awards Nominations now open!
Nominations are open for the 2011 Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards. Local sporting talent and unsung heroes - athletes, coaches and volunteers - can be nominated to win one of 17 different awards.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards is a joint venture between Hampshire County Council, Sport Hampshire & IOW and local sports councils & forums in Hampshire. It's a great opportunity for communities to recognise commitment, performance and excellence across all sports in their areas.
Get Active East Hampshire is keen to see people and teams nominated from our area for the awards. We believe that sport helps build strong communities and this is a great way to recognise those peoples' dedication and to show our appreciation for their hard work and passion for their sport.
As well awards for elite performers (in 2010 more than 20 international athletes featured in the shortlist) we want nominations for stalwarts of the local sporting community – the coaches, officials and volunteers who work behind the scenes to help athletes and clubs succeed. Here is a selection of the award categories on offer:
• Junior Sportsman/woman
• Senior Sportsman/woman
• Masters Sportsperson
• Junior Disability Sportsperson
• Senior Disability Sportsperson
• Outstanding Personal Achievement Award - This award will be given to someone who has overcome adversity to make an outstanding individual achievement in their chosen sport.
• Junior Team of the Year
• Senior Team of the Year
• Participation Coach of the Year - This award recognises the outstanding contribution of a coach to getting more people starting, staying and/or succeeding in sport through high-quality coaching.
• Performance Coach of the Year - This award recognises the achievements of a coach in developing emerging talent and athletes at the highest level of performance in sport.
• Official of the Year
• Club of the Year - This award recognises exceptional commitment to developing a club and the activities and services it offers to its local community.
• Junior Volunteer of the Year

Nominees are assessed by a judging panel and winners will need to meet the criteria specific for each category. For more information, a nomination form and to see the categories, criteria and nomination guidelines.
