Daley Thompson to open Eco Fitness Trail
Whitehill Bordon’s Eco Fitness Trail will be opened on Thursday (July 29) by double Olympic gold medallist Daley Thompson.
The outdoor course stretches over half a mile in the recreation ground in Mill Chase Road and will be officially opened at 2pm by Daley Thompson and the town’s mayor Cllr Adam Carew. The project is being administered by Whitehill town Council on Whitehill Town Council land.
A fun and fitness session will be run by Get Activ8’d at 3pm where 8-16-year-olds will have an opportunity to try out some of the new equipment – places for this are still available and can be booked from here.
Students from Mill Chase Community Technology College , who are studying for a fitness module as part of their BTEC, will 'test' the course with Daley and users of the Mill Chase Leisure Centre gym will also be trying out the circuit.
The fitness trail can be used by anyone and there is no fee to use it.
There will also be demonstration sessions every Wednesday at 7pm and Sundays at 9am and 10am during August. This starts on Sunday 1st August.
The calorie-busting workout includes equipment which will give users a cardiovascular boost as well as strengthening exercises. The challenges include hurdles, bench sit ups, bunny hops and parallel bars. There is also a multi-exercise bench, a balance beam and a horizontal ladder.
There are a total of 12 activities on the trail and the equipment is being provided by the company Sportsequip. The timber used to make the wooden trail is environmentally friendly because it comes from a renewable source. The fitness trail cost £28,000 to build and was entirely funded by central Government money which has been given to Whitehill Bordon because of Eco-town status. Cllr Adam Carew, the town’s mayor, said: “This new facility is a real boost to Whitehill and Bordon. This project was put forward by Whitehill Town Council and we are delighted that it is the first Eco-town project to be completed."

The recreation ground was chosen as an ideal place to site the fitness trail as it is already a hub for sports activities and is next to Mill Chase Leisure Centre. It is sited on Town Council land.
