Eco Fitness Trail for Whitehill Bordon
New Eco Fitness Trail will be open in July
Whitehill Bordon will have it's very own outdoor fitness trail built in July and is set to be the first community project to be completed using Eco-town funds.
The course, which stretches over half a mile, will be set up in the recreation ground in Mill Chase Road and the timber used to make the wooden trail is environmentally friendly, and comes from a renewable source. Using the fitness trail will be free and can be used by anyone, but it is recommended that young children are accompanied by an adult.
The fitness trail is due to be open by the end of July – which means residents can enjoy getting active during the summer months.
The calorie-busting workout will include equipment which will give users a cardiovascular boost as well as strengthening exercises. The challenges will include hurdles, bench sit ups, bunny hops and parallel bars. There will also be a multi-exercise bench, a balance beam and a horizontal ladder.
There will be a total of 12 activities on the trail and the equipment is being provided by the company Sportsequip.
The fitness trail cost £28,000 and was entirely funded by central Government money which has been given to Whitehill Bordon because of Eco-town status.
Cllr Andrew Joy, East Hampshire District Council Portfolio Holder for Whitehill Bordon & Alton, said: “This is a great project as it offers residents a healthy opportunity to have a fun and free workout while enjoying the environment."
The recreation ground was chosen as an ideal place to site the fitness trail as it is already a hub for sports activities and is next to Mill Chase Leisure Centre.
