Club Profile:
Our Location
The Archery Field by Cadlington House, Blendworth Lane, Horndean. This field is used all year and is available every day. On Sundays, summer and winter we have club shoots here. Every other Saturday morning we have a fun shoot, preceded by egg and bacon rolls.
Indoor Shooting
This takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at St. Joseph’s Church Hall, West St., Havant during the winter months.
Membership
It is open to all archers who are existing Grand National Archery Society members, or join GNAS on completion of a recognised course. Members may be any age over 8 years and Junior Members (up to 18 years of age) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. At present there are approximately 130 members ranging from 8 to 80 years.
Training Courses
Training courses for beginners are run during the summer, each one lasting 6 weeks. Completing this course would enable people to join either FOBB or another club.
Special Events
New Year’s Day: Soup n’Shoot for all interested members.
End of winter session: Club Indoor Championships
April: Every year during April there is a ‘have a go’ session for members of the public.
May: Longbow Shoot (open to any GNAS longbow archers) and Challenge Shoot (between local clubs)
September: Club’s Outdoor Championship
November: Crookhorn Shoot, approximately 200 archers from across the country compete in a shoot at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth. This is organised and run by the FOBB.

Forest of Bere Bowmen was set up in 1974 to promote archery. It is a sport which can be enjoyed by people of different ages and sexes and we have several 2 or 3 generation family members within the club. It involves apart from the skill, a lot of walking as arrows have to be collected, sometimes from as much as 100 yards or 90 metres each time (for skilled archers). With rounds of up to 12 dozen arrows and their being collected every 6 arrows that is a lot of walking. Beginners start shooting at a distance of 10 metres approximately so one can gradually build up strength and skill before the long walks. Many archers have learnt to shoot in their 50’s and 60’s and some even 70’s so don’t think that you have to be young to learn. Several of our archers represent Hampshire or have in the past, and some their country.
It is a fun and sociable way to keep fit.
